In Loving Memory of Deacon Charles “Chuck” Dennis
June 4, 1938 – July 1, 2025
With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Deacon Charles “Chuck” Dennis on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. While we grieve his loss, we also celebrate a life beautifully lived — full of love, faith, integrity, and quiet strength.
Chuck was born on June 4, 1938, in Florence, South Carolina, to the late Alethia Dennis and Charlie Gayle. As a young man, he journeyed to New York, where he completed high school and met the love of his life, Margaret Sowell. Together, they built a life rooted in love and devotion, raising two cherished children, Derrick and Cynthia. After Margaret’s passing, Chuck moved to Bensalem, Pennsylvania in 2019, carrying with him memories of their life together and continuing to live with dignity and grace.
A pillar of his church and community, Chuck faithfully served Grace Baptist Church of Christ for over four decades. As a Deacon and Treasurer, he offered not just his time and skills, but his heart. Whether serving on the Finance Committee or the Deacon Board, or fellowshipping with the Mighty Men of Valor, Chuck led by example—humble in spirit, steadfast in service, and always offering a word of encouragement or a helping hand. His quiet faith spoke volumes, and his presence left an indelible mark on those around him.
Professionally, Chuck dedicated many years to Peerless Imports as a truck driver. He was respected for his dependability, his work ethic, and his easygoing nature. But more than that, he was known for his kindness and his unwavering sense of responsibility—a man whose word meant something and whose smile could brighten a room.
Chuck’s legacy is one of deep love and strong values. He is survived by his devoted son, Derrick (Yvonne) Russ, and his loving daughter, Cynthia (Gregory) Hammond; his four treasured grandchildren: Raynada Jackson, Natisher (Henry) Booker, Monae Russ, and Alexis Hammond; and three great-grandchildren who brought him endless joy. He also leaves behind his “adopted” sister and brother, Mildred and Buford McDowell; a beloved Goddaughter; and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, in-laws, and dear friends who were blessed to know him.
Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that Chuck is reunited with his beloved Margaret, resting in the arms of the Lord. His spirit, his lessons, and his love will live on in each of us.
Rest peacefully, Deacon Charles “Chuck” Dennis. You were truly one of a kind, and you will be deeply, deeply missed.
