David G. Hampson

February 9, 1932 — May 22, 2020

David Gregory Hampson passed away suddenly in his favorite chair at his home with his family there on May 22, 2020. He was 88. Born on February 9, 1932, David was the eldest of 5 children. Harry and Anne (McLane) Hampson raised their family in Philadelphia. David and his 3 brothers grew up as close-knit siblings, although they lost their sister in childhood. For 65 years, David was a loving husband to Geraldine (nee Mazur) and they went on to raise their 6 children as well as 2 of their grandchildren in the Nottingham section of Bensalem, PA. A veteran of the United States Air Force, David later became a hard-working milkman for Hillcrest Dairy serving Philadelphia businesses and rarely missing a day’s work over his 32-year career. It was in this demanding role that he famously developed lifelong fitness habits. Known by the nickname “Soupy”, he was a spirited storyteller, loving to make everyone laugh with his endless litany of jokes. Forever young at heart, Poppy could go on for days amusing the little ones with his lively personality. He was passionate about his Philadelphia sports teams and always had a warm welcome for any visitor who came to his home. In his retirement years, he especially enjoyed road trips to visit family or to take the clan on vacation. David was the adored patriarch of an extended family whose closeness is his legacy. His beloved wife Gerry pre-deceased him, as did his siblings Harry, James, and Nancy and his son David. He is survived by his 5 children Nancy (Joe) Bertsch, Donna Hampson, Sandra Hampson, Michael (Celine) Hampson, Debra Hampson; his 5 grandchildren James, Eric, Krystle, Shane, Dylan; and his 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Garrett, his sisters-in-law, and his many nieces and nephews. Interment will be private and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. His light-hearted presence will surely be missed, but the stories and the jokes will live on.
