Earl M Baker

We are sad to announce the passing of State Senator Earl Mancill Baker of Wayne, Pennsylvania, who died on April 25, 2024, at the age of 84. In his profession, Mr. Baker was passionate about serving the community and State of PA for 50 years. Mr. Baker was born on January 22, 1940, in Philadelphia, PA.

Mr. Baker attended the University of North Carolina, in Chapel Hill, where he majored in Political Science. He served in the Navy as an officer and met his wife, Jacqueline Barnaby Baker in Newport, RI. They were married on January 18, 1964, and were happily married for 60 years.

After earning his Ph.D. from American University, Mr. Baker returned to Pennsylvania, where he became a professor of Political Science at Temple University from 1970-1990. Mr. and Mrs. Baker and their two children, Todd Barnaby Baker and Toby Tomlinson Baker resided in Malvern, PA until 1996. Afterwards, the Bakers moved to Wayne, Pennsylvania.

Mr. Baker served as a Chester County Commissioner for 12 years and a Pennsylvania State Senator for 6 years, from 1989-96. He won 16 elections and created the book series entitled “Run to Win.” In the late 1990s, Mr. Baker worked as an administer of Unisys Corporation and later, as the CEO of Presbyterian Homes and Services. After completing these endeavors, Mr. Baker remained active as a political consultant and political writer of published Opinion Editorials and poetry.

Mr. Baker is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Barnaby Baker, his son, Todd Barnaby Baker, and his daughter, Toby Tomlinson Baker. Mr. Baker left us too soon, and he will be truly missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Wednesday, May 1, 2024, from 10 to 11 AM at The Providence Friends Meeting, 105 N. Providence Rd., Media, PA 19063, followed by his service 11 AM. Interment to follow at the Providence Friends Meeting Cemetery. www.tomlinsonfh.com
