Edward John Flugrad

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Edward John “Tom” Flugrad, 83, on June 18, 2026, surrounded by his wife, Barbara, and family at the residence of his daughter, Denise (Duffy), in New Port Richey, Florida.

Born October 30, 1942, to Edward and Margaret Flugrad, Tom was happily raised in Fords, New Jersey, and never lost his love for going back and spending time with his family. He made his home in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, marrying Barbara and becoming a valued part of Barbara’s family. He proudly served in the United States Army Reserves before earning his business degree from Rutgers University.

Tom was an entrepreneur and longtime co-owner, with Barbara, of Captain’s Choice seafood restaurant and Twisty Treat in Mayfair, Philadelphia. Known affectionately by many as “Captain Tom,” he took great pride in his family, his businesses, his employees, and his customers. He enjoyed traveling with Barbara, carrying on his family-run winemaking tradition at Waterview Winery, and sharing the wine with friends and family. He also enjoyed working in the yard, tending to his garden and fruit trees, and caring for his koi fish. He cherished the many people he met throughout his life. He loved his family, golf, projects around the house, Philadelphia sports, especially the Philadelphia Phillies and spending time at the shore with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

He will be deeply missed by Barbara, his beloved wife of 60 years; daughters Denise (Duffy) Stellmach and Kelly (Scott) Miles; grandchildren Madison (John) Dlugosz, James Bidwell, Christian, Lucas (fiancée Alannah), Trinity, Gloria, Lee, and Maria Miles; great-grandchildren Frances Dlugosz, her expected sibling on the way, and Hayden Miles; sister Candice Knight (Timothy Brown); brother George (Lilith) Flugrad; and extended family members, friends, and neighbors.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Tom’s visitation Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 10 to 11 AM at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 601 Bristol Pike, Croydon, PA 19021, followed by Holy Mass at 11 AM. Interment will be held at Resurrection Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations would gratefully be accepted by Our Lady of Grace Parish in Penndel for the love and care of their elementary school children. Tom and Barbara were always proud of the students, their faith, and their hard work.

God bless and thank you for sharing in the life of a beloved man.
