Edward "Eddie" Russell Woodruff Jr., 47, of Levittown, PA passed away on September 9, 2025 from complications of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He was surrounded by a dozen broken hearts of family and friends loving on him as he transitioned. He was so incredibly brave in the midst of an arduous journey. While cancer took him from this earth far too soon, he is not defined by his illness. He is best remembered by a long legacy of love left behind.
Eddie was born April 29, 1978 to Edward R Woodruff Sr. and the late Beverly D. Woodruff. He was the youngest sibling in a house full of four older sisters. His dad's fondest memories of Eddie is him as an athlete, playing baseball and football. His sisters loved how he stood up for people, even as a young boy. They also love to talk about how he wore out his "indestructible" Big Wheel and often wondered what trouble the "boy" was up to. He loved his mother fiercely and missed her after her passing until the day he died.
He grew up pitching in baseball and word on the street is it was painful to watch him pitch, which often resulted in him charging umpires. Eddie was a graduate of Pennsbury High School in 1997 as a varsity football player with the Falcons. He went on to play and punt for the Wesley Wolverines at Wesley College where he continued his education. He was a paperboy from middle school, all the way through college, and knew which neighbors were the best tippers. Eddie was a diligent worker, always going the extra mile with his co-workers, taking every opportunity for overtime he could to provide for his family.
Eddie was a fan of all local Philly sports teams, with a special affinity for cheering on his beloved Eagles (Go Birds!). His favorite player of all time was the legendary Reggie White. The verdict is out on whether he had more fun going to the games or tailgating before. His great love of all things sports came from generations of his family, particularly his mother, who kicked everyone out of the house to watch games without distraction. For all his athleticism and love for sports, he refused to ever strap skis onto his feet to join his in-laws on the slopes. He was always willing to throw himself down the snowy hill on a tube though.
He took pride in detailing his 1993 Ford Mustang, taking it to local car meets with the Bucks County Stangz, and occasionally placing in car shows. He dreamed of opening his own detailing shop. He lived for his beach vacations. Coffee on the deck with friends overlooking the wild horses in Corolla in the OBX, long days in Brigantine getting buried in the sand by his girls, and corn hole with family in Ocean Gate. He amassed a slew of nicknames including, The Big Guy™, Eddie Spaghetti, the Mad Punter, Woogie, Walt, but his favorite will always be Daddy to his girls. He was as loud as his loud shirts. He had wide eclectic tastes in music. His dance moves were world famous and he held court on many a dance floor. Eddie's bear hugs are unparalleled. He loved everyone's kids as his own.
More than anything, Eddie loved his people and wanted to be with them. The most colorful of characters, the life of any party, and the biggest kid you ever met, Eddie made friends everywhere he went with his megawatt smile, his goofy sense of humor, and his loyalty. Kind, patient, genuine, and respectful, he was instantly welcoming, and always made you feel accepted. He was also fiercely protective of the hearts of everyone he loved. Every single person who knew Eddie will tell you how he made them laugh. You simply wanted to be in his presence. While he grew up in a house full of sisters, he had countless "brothers" in his many lifelong guy friends. His friendships transcended gender and had as many female friends. He is considered family by everyone. If Eddie's friends were all named here, the world would certainly run out of ink.
Eddie married Rebecca "Becki" McHugh on August 27, 2011. Becki was petrified to see the bill from the hotel after they handed him bottle after bottle after bottle of champagne at the reception. She's still expecting it in the mail any day now. Even from the very beginning, Eddie never cared about looking cool in front of his friends when it came to Becki. He let everyone know he thought she hung the moon. He never took credit alone for any of his accomplishments and always gave her props. He proposed to her at a friend's holiday party, dressed as Santa with a sack full of toys for the kids, saving the best gift for Becki—his promise to spend the rest of his life with her. Becki remembers him as her biggest fan and supporter, while acknowledging he could be a real pain in the ass and her "first child." He loved her with everything he had. He was Becki's live in comedian and personal party wherever they went. He was everything and more she hoped for in a partner and father. She'll never forget seeing him for the first time, her jaw hit the floor seeing his wide smile and mischievous eyes in his black Nike hat and Peruzzi detailing garb.
Eddie was immensely proud to be a "girl dad" to Laci Clara and Mia Beverly and ever willing to have his nails painted by his girls. Always the biggest kid in any room, Eddie was the best playmate with his kids. He was involved in everything in every way. He made the best breakfasts complete with Krusteaz eggless pancakes and pork roll. He loved spending time in the Mustang with Laci and being silly with Mia. Laci remembers how her Daddy was always there for her, that he knew how to cheer her up, and how funny he was. She loved that he took her on all the rides at Disney. One of her favorite memories is her Daddy throwing her into the stratosphere on beach days in Ocean Gate, always catching her, no matter how high he tossed her. He taught her how to always be a beast on the basketball court, to try your heart out, and to be you in everything you do. He always said to Laci "Might as well be awesome." Mia loved her Daddy's silly faces and how he made her laugh with them. She loved playing Uno with him and when he tickled her so hard she peed. He taught her how to draw and how to make a "fancy A." She also loved being carried by him in the pool. Her favorite memories are of him tossing her onto the couch and making "the best" ice cream sundaes, though she can't recall ever eating any of them.
Eddie was larger than life, itself. Everything about Eddie was big—big guy, big smile, big personality, big appetite, but the biggest thing about him was his big beautiful heart. It was gargantuan and has wrapped countless people in his love. While he will be desperately missed by many, it was an absolute privilege to be loved by him for as long as he was here with us.
Eddie is predeceased by his mother Beverly Woodruff (nee Chase). Eddie is survived by his wife, Becki Woodruff (nee McHugh); his daughters Laci and Mia; father, Edward R.
