Russ was born in Philadelphia to Frank and Florence Manning. He attended Dobbins High School where he learned the printing trade. He lived in Bensalem for 33 years before moving to Langhorne 23 years ago.
Russ was a huge fan of all sports but he especially loved the Phillies and the Eagles. He was involved in youth sports for over 50 years. He coached all ages in many sports including Armstrong Middle School baseball and flag football. Russ umpired for 39 years for PIAA Umpiring Assn., Jr and Sr. Babe Ruth Baseball Assn, and Legion Baseball. He served on Sr. Babe Ruth Baseball Assn board for 13 years. He also served on the Bensalem Township Board of Recreation where he was instrumental in developing the Valley Athletic Association fields at Washington Lane. He served on The Valley Athletic Board and ran the concession stand for several years. He kept score for the Jr. Varsity and Varsity basketball at Bensalem High School for many years. Russ will be inducted to Bensalem High School Sports Hall of Fame in January 2024.
He is survived by Penny, his loving wife of 56 years. His children, Russell (Angie) of Langhorne, Andrew of Studio City, Tim (Bryn) Newtown, Amy (Justin) of Downingtown. He has seven grandchildren, Abby, Bridget, Owen, Skylar, Hunter Hayes and Tessa of whom he was very proud. He is also survived by cousins Bill and Stan (Helen Collins) Szlachta and Arlene Harper
Russ was a member of Bensalem United Methodist Church where he served as an usher, counter, and custodian of the chapel. Services will be at Bensalem UMC on Sept 21.
