It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Frances (Scipione) Petruzzelli, who departed this life peacefully on Saturday June 21, 2025, at the age of 93, surrounded by her family. Frances was born on March 9, 1932, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Giovanina (Ioannone) and Raffaele Scipione, where she was raised and nurtured in a loving Italian family that instilled in her the values of faith, compassion, generosity and devotion.
Frances attended Our Lady of Pompeii Elementary School and Little Flower High School for Girls. She dedicated her career to Frankford Torresdale Hospital, where she worked in the operating room as a Surgical Scheduler. Her meticulous nature and caring demeanor were instrumental in the lives of countless medical staff, patients and their families, reflecting her commitment to service and support.
A warm-hearted homemaker, Frances took joy in cooking, caring for her children and grandchildren. She was a truly humble person relishing in the simple pleasures of life. She found comfort and pleasure in the religious hymns sung by Robert Kochis and the smooth melodies of Dean Martin.
Her nurturing spirit and contagious laughter will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Frances was a cherished matriarch of her family. She is survived by her three loving daughters: Lisa Shaw (John), Christina “Tina” Mahan (John), and Mia “Maria” Nigrelli (John), who will carry forward her
legacy of love and kindness. Frances was a proud and loving Grammy to 8 Grandchildren: Dana (Mike), Christie (Matt), John (Miriam), Marielle (Michael), Michael, Isabel, Nicolas, and Noelle. Additionally, she was the adored Great-Grammy of 6: Giuliana, Ryan, Annabelle, Lilyana, Kali, and Elena, who brought immense joy and light into her life. Frances was also preceded in death by her siblings, Vincent Scipione, Dora Pacitti and Loreta Rongione.
Frances possessed a truly radiant spirit and a beautiful, pure soul. She was someone who could walk into any room and instantly light it up with her genuine happiness and warmth, and her infectious laugh had the power to bring a smile to anyone's face. She shared a special, unconditional love with everyone around her, and no matter who you were, Frances had a remarkable way of making you feel like you were her favorite. She was extremely selfless, the type of person who would go hungry to ensure you had food on your plate, and she would have done absolutely anything for her beloved family.
