Frances C. Smith

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Frances C. (Dion) Smith, who passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at the age of 93. Born in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Frances M. (Snyder) and Edward R. Dion, Sr and was a resident of Croydon for the past 76 years.

Frances dedicated 25 years of her life as a housekeeper at Eastern State Hospital, where she formed lasting bonds and touched the lives of many. She was renowned for her caring nature and her unwavering love for animals, who were integral parts of her life. Frances had a particular passion for baking, especially during the holiday season, when she delighted family and friends with her famous cookies and cinnamon rolls.

An avid fan of Western movies and TV shows, Frances could often be found enjoying the adventures of her favorite characters. She also held a special place in her heart for Elvis, whose music always managed to bring a smile to her face.

Frances leaves behind her loving children: William H. Smith, III (Patricia), Edward W. Smith (Janice), Frances C. McClosky (The late Anthony), Joseph J. Smith (Linda), and Diane M. Ptasznyk (Bob). She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Joan Smith; 18 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; Her brother James Dion (Donna) and many other loving extended family members and friends. Frances was also preceded in death by her son, James E. Smith, Sr and her siblings, Edward R. Dion, Jr (Astella) and Anna Fritch (George)

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing Friday, February 21, 2025, from 6 to 7 PM at the Tomlinson Funeral Home, 2207 Bristol Pike, Bensalem, PA 19020, followed by her service at 7 PM. Interment will take place Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 10 AM at Forest Hills Cemetery, 101 Byberry Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006.
