Georgianna Schaffer, 87, of Bensalem, passed away on October 6 after a valiant, hard-fought battle with congestive heart failure. She was surrounded by loved ones as she transitioned peacefully and without pain.
Georgianna was born on November 14th, 1935 in Norristown, PA. Her family moved and she went to school in the state of New Jersey. On January 19th, 1957, she wed the love of her life, Raymond Schaffer, and together they went on to have three children: Debbie, Raymond Jr., and Darlene. Raymond and Georgianna were married for 49 wonderful years until his sudden passing in February of 2003.
Georgianna was mostly a stay-at-home mother while raising her children, prioritizing her family and home before anything. She was known to all for cooking delicious lasagna, making way-too-sweet Iced Tea, baking scrumptious Christmas cookies, and making sure her husband and children were cared for and happy. She made friends with other stay-at-home moms in the neighborhood and they all enjoyed drinking coffee and having rich conversations about their families for many years.
Endless wonderful memories were made at the house Raymond and Georgianna purchased and resided in while raising their children since 1961. Years later, once grand- and great-grandchildren began arriving, her roles evolved into attending endless dance recitals, high school and college graduations, being a dedicated Mom-Mom taxi driver, shopping at the mall, and spending family time at the campground in the Poconos. She was known fondly as “Mom-Mom Machine” because playing her full-sized slot machine was a grandkid-favorite.
Before her health began to decline, Georgianna possessed amazing talents and had several hobbies. As a young woman, she was a competitive roller skater in New Jersey, winning many trophies for her efforts. She possessed a natural talent in many areas of the Arts. Her hobbies included crocheting warm blankets, drawing, painting, ceramics, cooking, baking, and creating intricate Christmas decorations for the family home. She exceled at anything that required a vision, creativity and steady hands.
Once the house became an “empty nest,” Georgianna returned to the workplace by working at various jobs, a few right alongside her husband. The last place she worked was Notations in their factory for over 20 years. To the very end, she spoke fondly of her coworkers Miss Ida, Kevin, and the many others that she considered her work family.
Georgianna will be deeply missed by her children: Debbie Kodroff (Andy), Raymond Schaffer Jr. (Kathy), and Darlene Schaffer, as well as her grandchildren: Christy (Dave), Raymond III, Danielle, Michael, Brittany (George), and Alexa, and her great grandchildren: Makiyla, Briella, Mikey, Georgie, Mia, Evelyn, Logan, and Lincoln. Georgianna was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond W. Schaffer and her granddaughter, Jennifer. She will also be missed by her beloved cat, Jinxie.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Viewing at St. Ephrem Church, 5400 Hulmeville Road, Bensalem, Pa 19020 on Friday, October 13th from 10:00-11:00 AM followed by her Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery.
