James E Christie, Sr

Heaven just got a little more Irish with the passing of James E. Christie, Sr., who left us on Thursday May 7, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on January 6, 1944, in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Marie L. (Redden) and James F. Christie. Jim spent his life pouring love into his family and community. A proud resident of Northeast Philadelphia, he attended Father Judge High School, graduating with the Class of 1961.

Jim proudly served in the National Guard for six years. He became a Philadelphia police officer in 1969 and dedicated 25 years of his life to the Philadelphia Police Department, eventually rising to the rank of Sergeant. His time in the 35th Police District, along with his roles in the Anti-Crime Team and Narcotic Strike Force, earned him numerous commendations that speak to his unwavering commitment to serving and protecting the residents of Philadelphia. Following his retirement from law enforcement, Jim spent 20 years working for the
Archdiocese of Philadelphia alongside his best friend, Frank Garvin, with whom he had proudly served in the police department.

Family meant everything to him, and his yearly trips to Sea Isle City will always be remembered as "Christie Week"-a time when laughter and love filled the air.
Jim's love for cars, particularly Corvettes, was matched only by his passion for music. He could always be found enjoying the oldies on the radio. Jim loved having family and friends over to his house for pool parties. His zest for life and the joy he brought to those around him will be missed dearly.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Carol M (Bixby) Christie. He will also be deeply missed by his three loving sons, James E. Christie, Jr (Jennifer), Keith W. Christie (Hillary) and Kevin M. Christie. Jim is also survived by three grandchildren, Ryan James, Brynn Victoria and Evalina Rose; His brother Gerald Christie (Mary Ann) and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Jim was also preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Perugini.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation Friday May 15, 2026, from 9:30 to 11 AM at Christ the King Church, 3252 Chesterfield Road, Philadelphia, PA 19114, followed by his Mass at 11 AM. Interment will be private.
