Janice E. (Orr) Durant left this earth and passed into heaven on Friday, January 12, 2024, at the age of 85. Born on November 25, 1938, in Buffalo, NY, to the late Ethlyn (Drake) and James Orr, she was the second child of ten siblings. She was a resident of Morrisville, PA for just over 3 years and formerly lived in Sanfordville, a suburb of Potsdam, NY.
Prior to moving to Morrisville, in 2020, Mrs. Durant was an active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Throughout her membership, she served in nursery care and sat on various committees. While attending Emmanuel Baptist Church, she went on a mission trip to Kenya. A pastor she met, while in Kenya, kept in touch and referred to her as his spiritual mother. Janice loved the Lord. Her greatest wish was for others to find God and to establish a personal relationship with Him.
Janice dedicated her life to raising her five children. She also worked as an in-home tutor for many years at the local high school. Her passion for teaching and helping others was evident in her commitment to her students, whom she cared for deeply. She saw education as a powerful tool that could shape lives and pave the way for a brighter future.
Janice enjoyed knitting and crocheting special projects that were often gifted to others. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, Sudoku, and jigsaw puzzles. Her love for murder mysteries was unparalleled.
Janice was an avid reader, always seeking knowledge and finding solace in the world of literature. She enjoyed her own continued learning: she adapted to technology and learned to text message others on her phone and to use computers for email, documents, and games.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Lowell D. Durant. She will be deeply missed by her children: David L. Durant, Dawn J. Romine, Donna L. Rock (Harold), Dianne J. Beale (Michael), and Daniel F. Durant (Tamara). Janice is also survived by four of her siblings: Patricia Ewert (Ed), Rebecca Rangel, Charles Orr (Millie), and Lucinda Gennoe (Tony). She leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, with another on the way. Janice will forever be remembered for her warm heart, her undying love for her family, and her unwavering dedication to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
