John J. Cannon

John J. Cannon, III of Philadelphia passed away Sunday December 26, 2021 at Holy Redeemer Hospital. He was 68 years old. John was born in Philadelphia and was a lifelong resident. He was a Police Officer with the Philadelphia Police Department for 35 years, retiring as a Senior Examiner with the FIU Unit (Firearms Identification Unit). John was a member of the Holmesburg Fish & Game for many years. He enjoyed hunting, shooting, and telling his terrible “John Cannon Jokes”. John spent his retirement doing what he felt passionate about- volunteering with the FRAT (First Responders Addiction Treatment) Program at the Livengrin Foundation. He was a humble man who had a large impact on so many lives. John was a devoted husband, father, Dziadzi, son, and brother. He beamed with pride when it came to any discussion of his children and grandchildren. He will be profoundly missed by his beloved wife of 35 years, Theresa “Terry” (Mitchell). He is also survived by his mother, Anna (Wieczerzak); His children: John J., IV (Aileen), Jared Cannon (Christine), Janice Finnegan, Scooter “JoAnne” McQuade (Michael), Jeremy Cannon (Bernadette), Jenna Platt (Justin), and Jim Cannon; His sister, Sister Mary John OP “Aunt Cathy”, and his 18 grandchildren: Josh, Tommy, Sarah, Jared, Jr., Jim, Emily, Sammie, Ryan, Alex, Jamie, Jeremy, Erin, Gracie, Carly, Chris, Dalton, Wyatt and Travis. John was preceded in death by his father, John J. Cannon, Jr. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing, Tuesday, January 4, 2022, from 9:30 to 11:30 AM at the Bethel Church Philadelphia Mills, 903 Franklin Mills Cir, Philadelphia, PA 19154, followed by his service at 11:30 AM. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his memory can be made to the Livengrin Foundation, 4833 Hulmeville Rd., Bensalem, PA 19020. Checks can be made payable to Livengrin Foundation, memo to note FRAT Program. The family request all those who attend John’s service to please wear a mask.
