It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John J. McCarthy, affectionately known as Jack, who passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026. Jack was born on July 7, 1929, in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Catherine (Huntley) and William McCarthy and was a resident of Newtown for the past 31 years.
Following graduation from North Catholic, Class of 1948, Jack joined the United States Naval Reserve. In 1955, Jack was accepted as a cadet with the Philadelphia Fire Department. Jack dedicated 30 years of his life to proudly serving as a fireman with the Philadelphia Fire Department, where he became a respected figure in his community.
Jack loved the outdoors. Throughout his life, Jack spent as much time as he could making memories with friends and family at the Jersey Shore, on a boat fishing, or on a golf course. Jack was a regular at Bensalem Golf Course starting in the 1960’s where he enjoyed many lifelong friendships.
Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mary F. (Braim) McCarthy. He is survived by his two wonderful daughters, Donna McCarthy and Colleen McCarthy, as well as three grandchildren, Patrick (Pamela), Bridget (Anthony), and Courtney (Bruce). He was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Emma and Bruce, who brought him immense joy. Jack was also preceded in death by his siblings, Catherine “Kitty” Percy, William “Bud” McCarthy, Joseph McCarthy, and his twin brother and best friend, Robert “Bobby” McCarthy.
