John passed away suddenly on October 17, 2025.
Born in Philadelphia, PA on February 8, 1962, John spent much of his life seeking connection, even when connection was hard to hold onto. He found comfort in nature, especially the mountains, where the quiet and vastness seemed to meet him where words could not. His children were an enduring part of his life and identity and, although the path between hearts was not always easy or clear, the love remained.
He found joy in collecting coins, specifically pennies – small reminders of value overlooked, each one carried and kept with purpose but was the happiest when spending time with family and friends.
After graduating from Bensalem High School, John made a career working as a locksmith. He worked at West Philadelphia Locksmith Co. for over 30 years. He took pride in his work and made a point of keeping up with the constantly evolving profession. He was a proud member of the Associated Locksmiths of America (ALOA). His greatest satisfaction was in using his skills to help people when they needed him the most.
John is survived by his children, sons John A. Messatzzia of Texas; Steven, Matthew, Andrew, Luke and Bryan Messatzzia of Delaware County, and daughter Kathleen of Pennsylvania; his mother, Helen Blackburn, brothers George Messatzzia and Frank Cassel, both of Bucks County, and sisters Kim Brown of Bucks County and Beth Raszewski of Pike County. Also survived by three grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to mental health organizations in his memory in the hope that others might find more peace along their journey.
