John W. Walsh

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John W. Walsh, a beloved life partner, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, and dedicated member of the law enforcement community, who left us on September 29, 2025, at the age of 86. John was born on May 27, 1939, in Philadelphia, PA, where he lived most of his life. He served as a Patrolman with the Philadelphia Police Department for over 20 years, diligently protecting and serving his community with pride and integrity. 

John was a cherished member of the Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police and the Retirees FOP, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to his fellow officers and the values they stand for. Additionally, he was an enthusiastic member of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club, where he formed lasting friendships and shared his passion for riding with others who admired the open road.

 John is survived by his son, Rick Walsh (Donna Joy), his grandchild, Samantha Doman, as well as his life partner, Joanne Shields, and her children, Eric Shields (Christina) and Brian Shields (Jennifer), and Joanne’s grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. John was preceded in death by his parents, John J. and Eve Marie (nee Carr) Walsh and his sister, Patricia Udzienski. 

In honor of John’s life and legacy, a public viewing will be held at St. Anselm Church 12670 Dunksferry Road, Philadelphia, Pa 19154 on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, followed by a Mass at 11:00 AM. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of the wonderful life John led. After the Mass, John will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery.

John Walsh's kindness, laughter, and commitment to service will live on in the hearts of those he loved and in the many lives he touched throughout his years. May he rest in peace.
