On Saturday, March 28, 2020, Jose Montenegro, beloved husband and father of four children, passed away at the age of 82. Jose was born on March 5, 1938 in Taal, Batangas in the Philippines. In 1959, at the age of 21, he enlisted with the United States Navy and traveled abroad to the United States. Jose was initially stationed in Mayport, Florida on the USS Saratoga and spent his first few years on the vessel traveling around the Mediterranean Sea. He was then stationed on the USS Leahy and then completed his naval duty at the Naval Air Station in Lakehurst, New Jersey, where he received his honorable discharge in 1971. Jose continued to work at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard prior to his retirement. Jose was a long-time resident of Bensalem Township. He enjoyed traveling around the world with his wife as well as attending professional boxing and horse racing events at the Parx complex. He was also active with the Filipino American Association of Bucks County but his greatest pleasure was spending time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Myrna (nee Valentin) and his four children, Jon (Misty), Christine Morris (Joseph), Joseph (Melanie), and Michael (Mary May) as well as his grandchildren: Jaida, Sommer, Jonathan, Juliana, and Jasmine. He is also survived by his siblings: Thelma Reyes (Rolando), Dominica Diego (Santos), and Arnulfo Montenegro (Nelia). Relative and friends are invited to attend his Visitation at St. Ephrem Church, 5400 Hulmeville Rd., Bensalem, PA 19020 on August 18, 2020 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM. followed by his Memorial Mass at 11:00 AM.
