Joseph A. Gibbs, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend, peacefully passed away on December 29, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on September 22, 1936, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Joseph lived a life filled with love, dedication, and a profound commitment to his family and community.
A proud veteran of the National Guard, Joseph served his country with honor and integrity. After his service, he built a fulfilling career as a pressman with the Philadelphia Inquirer, where he was respected for his work ethic and dedication. Outside of his professional life, Joseph was an active member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, contributing to the life of his parish and supporting those in need.
In his retirement, Joseph found joy in tending to his yard, reveling in the beauty of nature and the satisfaction of hard work. He had a passion for boating, where his adventurous spirit shined, and he loved spending time with his family, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love.
Joseph is survived by his beloved wife Elaine Gibbs; his cherished daughters, Janet Gibbs-Reddell (the late Leon) and Carol Gibbs-Morgan (the late Phillip); his son, Joseph Gibbs (Karen), 7 Grandchildren and 18 Great-Grandchildren. Joseph was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan, in 2010. He leaves behind a legacy of love that will be missed greatly by all who knew him.
A Funeral Service will be held on January 4, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Tomlinson Funeral Home, preceded by a Public Viewing at 9:00 a.m. Joseph will then be laid to rest at 11:00 a.m. in Bensalem, PA.
As we gather to celebrate Joseph’s remarkable life, we invite family and friends to share in the love and memories he created throughout his years. He will forever remain in our hearts as a devoted family man whose kindness and generosity touched many lives.
