Joseph Francis Hogan

April 8, 1949 — October 24, 2023

We are saddened to announce that Joseph F. Hogan III of Levittown passed away peacefully in the comfort of his loving home on the morning of October 24, 2023. He was 74 years old and faced a long and difficult three year fight with lung cancer. Joe is predeceased by his loving wife, Cindy, his mother Helen, father Joseph Jr., and brother Patrick. He is survived by his four children: Shawn (Maryellen), Rachelle Bost (Rob), Joe IV (Janita), and Patrick. Who were with him until the very end. His four beautiful grandchildren: RJ, Kayleen, Mason, and Anaya. Joe’s pride for his grandchildren is undying. He is also survived by his brother Mike, sister Helene and numerous other members of his family.

Joe was a lifelong resident of Levittown, having moved to the Goldenridge section in 1952 and later to Magnolia Hill where he raised his family. Joe was a Bishop-Egan graduate and enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1967, served in the combat infantry in Vietnam and was awarded the Purple Heart and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He later served in the Army National Guard where he received a second Purple Heart.

He continued to serve the Veteran community by fighting to add “agent orange” to the list of known carcinogens qualifying for VA disability and helped many others qualify for Veteran’s benefits. Throughout his life he was heavily involved with numerous Veteran Service Organizations including past Post Commander of the Terchon VFW and member of the American Legion and DAV. Joe was incredibly proud of helping to form and grow the Guardians of the National Cemetery at Washington Crossing where he served as both Vice President and President.

Not content with just the Veteran’s community, Joe loved coaching youth sports for his own children and later his grandchildren. He was a regular presence at Levittown American Little League, volunteered with St. Mike’s CYO soccer and served as an Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 123 in Levittown. Joe was also involved in local politics, running for Mayor of Bristol Township in 2005. Due in part to his community involvement, Joe was the Grand Marshall of the Bucks County St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 2015.

The entire Hogan family is exceptionally thankful and appreciative of all the love and support received from Margaret Marino, who was only ever a phone call away and one of Joe’s favorite neighbors and people to see.

Service will be held at Tomlinson Funeral Home on Monday, October 30th from 6-8PM. Burial will be on Tuesday October 31st at 10AM at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Joe’s memory to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation at www.mcsf.org or 909 N. Washington Street Suite 400 Alexandria, VA 22314.

Joe’s spirit will live on through the memories of his friends, family, the stories he shared, and the positive impact he tried to have on his community.
