Josephine Benedetto, 90, died at a Bangor Hospital on November 3, 2019. She was a resident at the Ellen Leach Home in Brewer. She was born in Cassino, Italy to Giovani and Vincenza Verrechia.
Towards the end of World War II her mother died in the Conflict of Monte Cassino, Italy. She then traveled alone to America by way of Ellis Island at age 16 to meet her father who was living in Philadelphia. She married in 1948 to Tito Benedetto. She attended night school to speak and write English and become a US citizen.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Tito, and her son, Timothy. After her retirement at age 81 she eventually moved to Maine.
Surviving are her daughters, Diana Cyr and husband, Philip, and Madelyn Kubach and her husband, Dennis; seven grandchildren, Philip, Noelle, Lisa, Adam Rhianna, Valerie and Christopher. 20 great -grandchildren and 2 great-great-grand babies. They all loved Nona and her sauce and meatballs were legendary.
Services will be Saturday, November 9, 2019 from 10:30am to 11am at the Philadelphia Christian Center. Followed by a service at 11am. Interment will be at Beverly National Cemetery, New Jersey, where she will be buried beside her late husband, Tito.
