Julia M. Mchugh

Julia M. (Castagna) McHugh, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2023. She was 99 years old. Born in Philadelphia to the late Pietro and Rosalia (Giordano) Castagna and was a lifelong resident of Philadelphia.

Julia was a graduate of John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls’ High School, Class of 1942. She was a dedicated individual, who enjoyed working as a clerk for the Philadelphia Department of Revenue for over 10 years.

Outside of her work, Julia had a zest for life. She cherished her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She loved playing bingo, dancing, and engaging in activities that brought joy to her life

Julia is survived by her loving children: Margaret “Peg” R. Myers (The late Donald), Thomas J. McHugh (Peg), and Patricia “Pat” O'Kane (Bud) and her daughter-in-law, Debbie McHugh (The late Timothy). She was a cherished grandmother to Emily Savino (Bob), Adam Myers, Donald Myers (Colleen), Patrick O'Kane, Kelly Shive (Bryan), Matthew O'Kane (Fiancé Morgan), Kevin McHugh (Rachel), Timothy McHugh (Stephanie), and Sean McHugh. Her legacy will continue through her great-grandchildren: Dominic Savino, Nicholas Savino, Ryan Carey, Hayleigh Myers, Genevieve Myers, Bennett Myers, Donald Myers, Harper Shive, Brooks Shive, and Keegan McHugh. Julia was preceded in death by her son, Timothy P. McHugh and her son-in-law, Donald Myers.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visitation Wednesday, October 25, 2023, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at St. Katherine of Siena Church, 9700 Frankford Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19114, followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. Rite of Committal Resurrection Cemetery.
