It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Karen DiVitis, a beloved mother, nonna, sister, and friend, who returned home to Jesus on January 17th. Born on June 28, 1960, in West Chester, Pennsylvania, to the late Nunziato and Margaret (nee Wilhelm) DiVitis. Karen spent her life dedicated to her family and her career as a Systems Analyst at Jefferson Hospital, where she had many friends and colleagues.
Karen's warm, adventurous spirit and kind heart touched all who knew her. She was a proud member of The Block Church where she served as a greeter, and found fulfillment in the arts such as jewelry making, mosaics, knitting, attending the theater and more. An avid lover of life, it didn’t take much to make Karen smile, she embraced simple pleasures and activities that filled her heart with eternal happiness. Joy came with her presence, where something as simple as grocery shopping would include dancing the Can-Can down the aisles. She was incredibly smart, resilient, prudent and had a great sense of humor. She enjoyed taking walks with her dog Sophia, traveling with her many friends who she adored, cooking delicious meals, dancing, and staying fit at the gym. Karen’s greatest joy of all, and reason for working so hard, came from her spending time with her family, her brothers, her children and grandchildren, whom she cherished immeasurably.
Karen is survived by her loving son, Anthony Maddalo (Gabrielle), devoted daughter Andrea Maddalo, beloved grandchildren, Gia, Leo, and Ella, and her cherished brothers Nunziato and Dominic DiVitis. The legacy of her love and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Karen’s visitation at The Block Church, 9768 Verree Road, Philadelphia, Pa 19115 on Thursday, January 29th from 1:00-2:00 PM followed by her memorial service at 2:00 PM. Interment will be private.
Karen will be deeply missed yet remembered fondly as a vibrant spirit who brought light and laughter to all who knew her. Her family and friends take comfort in knowing they will see her again at the gates of heaven.
