It is with deep sadness and respect that we announce the passing of Lewis John Gibson Sr., past Fire Chief and lifetime member of the Croydon Fire Company No.1 Station 11, who passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at the age of 67. Born in Bristol, PA to the late George Sr. and Anna Gibson.
Lew dedicated his life to the service of others, with over 50 years of unwavering commitment to the fire service. He began his career at Union Fire Company Station 37 and then moved to Croydon Fire Company No.1 Station 11. His distinguished service and dedication lead to his rise through the ranks, ultimately landing as chief, where he continued to service with honor and respect.
Beyond his official duties, Big Lew was also a mentor and friend, in the fire service and the community. His legacy lives on in the department he helped shape. When Lew wasn’t spending time at the fire house, he enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his children Lew Gibson Jr. (Sarah) and Melissa Gibson. His pride and joy his grandchildren Michael, Kayla, Kelsie, Joshua, Thomas, Kaiden and Paisley. His siblings George and Johnny Gibson and Anna Leone (Wayne). Lew also leaves behind a very large extended family including several nieces and nephews who will miss him tremendously.
Lew is proceeded in death by his late wife Lisa and his brothers Tommy and Joey Gibson.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Saturday September 13, 2025, from 9 to 11 AM at the Croydon Fire Company No. 1 Station 11, 911 State Road, Croydon, PA 19021, followed by his service at 11 AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Christopher’s Children’s Hospital (See donation link at the bottom of the page). www.tomlinsonfh.com
