Louis H. Hornberger

June 18, 1948 — October 25, 2021

Louis H. Hornberger of Bensalem passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side on Monday October 25, 2021. He was 73 years. Born in Philadelphia, Lou was a resident of Bensalem for the last 48 years. He worked in sales throughout his life and most recently at the Plaza Galleries in Manhattan NY. Lou was an avid Philadelphia Sports fan and a longtime season ticket holder with the Philadelphia Flyers.

Lou, as everyone so lovingly called him, was in love with doowop and pop music. It was a part of his very nature, going back to his Philly childhood. As an adult, Lou became successful in the estate liquidation business and established an office in Midtown Manhattan, near the world Famous Carnegie Hall.

Lou still possessed a deep love for and a deep desire to meet and promote those great/original singing artists! One day, in the early 2000's, he took a leisurely stroll into "Times Square" and visited "The Colony" music store, well known as a hub for singers and songwriters, to find out how he could, personally meet these artist\s.

The first show Lou promoted was a holiday party at New York Musician's Union Local 802, featuring a live band and sets by doowop harmony groups. For the next "ten years" he presented shows in, New York and Philadelphia featuring artists in doowop, soul, jazz, and pop music including:

Stuart Bascombe (Black Ivory). Blue Magic, Lou Christie, The Crystals, Ron Dante, The Drifters, Mark Lindsay, The Orions, Perry Martin, The Jesters, The Paragons, Eddie and the Starlights John Kuse and The Excellents, Hal Keshner and HK Combo, The Marvelettes, Louise Murray, The Rip Chords, The Shirelles, Crystal Spivey, The Super Girls Group, Dennis Tufano (Buckinghams), Barbara Harris and The Toys and The Tymes.

These shows were a labor of love for Lou. A lot of the shows that Lou presented were in celebration of his love for his loving wife, Betty Hornberger (a music lover after Lou's heart). Betty stood by her husband through all of his endeavors, thick or thin. She was there supporting him and enjoying herself in the process. Even though none of the shows were wildly successful, he gave the artists freedom to do their thing and present their own unique sets.

All these performers and grateful fans would certainly agree that the "music world" is a better place because Lou Hornberger was part of it.

In 2013, Louis Hornberger met with Philadelphia's own living legend, Bobby Eli (Engineer Extraordinaire of TSOP, The Sound of Philadelphia ). Lou wanted to add more depth to his producer's role, so, he took his newly acquired artist, Crystal Spivey to Bobby Eli to produce a music CD. It was a journey of love and labor to complete the CD (taking 2 years) but Lou never gave up on the project. He was there every step of the way. The CD was something Lou was particularly proud of. His favorite songs from the CD are: "Home Improvement" and "What A Wonderful World". The CD has yet to be fully marketed but the journey isn't yet complete! His project will not die. The success of this CD, "Anticipation", will be dedicated to Mr. Louis Hornberger.

Lou was always looking to help those in need by supporting the Salvation Army, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and was a Breast Cancer Vaccine Advocate. He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of 30 years, “Coney Island Baby” Elizabeth “Betty” (Ebinger) Hornberger. Lou is also survived by his 5 loving children: Louis Hornberger (Gail), Wendy Mortimer, Daniel, James and Timothy Hornberger; His brothers: James (Marti) and Larry Hornberger and 5 grandchildren. Lou was preceded in death by his parents, James and Margaret (Foss) Hornberger and his sister, Margaret Lynn Hornberger.
