Mary Jane Murphy

Mary Jane Murphy of Andalusia died peacefully on April 14, 2024, at the age of 101.

Known to many as Jane, she was the daughter of the late Isaac R. and Mae B McGraw. She was raised in Somerton along with her three siblings and was graduated from Olney High School and Temple University.

She taught school for many years, first as a pre-kindergarten teacher in Philadelphia, and later as a fourth-grade teacher at Albert Schweitzer Elementary School in the Neshaminy School District. After her retirement as a teacher, she worked for W. and H.F. Evans, a wholesale florist business owned by her husband and then by their two eldest sons.

She was a member of the Church of Redeemer in Andalusia, where she served on the Altar Guild and the Vestry for many years. She loved baseball and was the scorekeeper for the V.F.W. Midgets and Juniors teams in the 1950s and 1960s while her husband was a coach. Her favorite pastimes included rooting for the Phillies and Eagles and for the Temple University football team.

She was devoted to her family and was the beloved wife of 67 years of the late Harry

Evans Murphy. She is survived by three sons, Michael Bruce (Margaret) Murphy, Ross Patrick (Laurie) Murphy, and David Evans (Sandra) Murphy; two daughters, Nancy Murphy (James) Vickers and Ruth Aileen (Richard) White; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

It is anticipated that a Celebration of Life will be scheduled some time in the coming months. Contributions in memory of Mary Jane Murphy may be sent to the Church of the Redeemer, 1065 Bristol Pike, Bensalem, PA 19020. www.tomlinsonfh.com
