It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Matthew Kirk Esworthy, aged 51, who departed this world peacefully on August 18, 2026. Born on March 3, 1975, in Hershey, PA, Matt filled the lives of his family and friends with laughter, kindness, curiosity, and very often a lot of words.
Matt was exceptionally intelligent, endlessly curious, and incredibly funny. He loved to talk and had a lot to say, something anyone who received one of his famously long text messages or voicemails knew well. He loved sharing his thoughts and ideas, and conversations with Matt were rarely short or forgettable.
He was fascinated by astrology, numerology, and the universe, and he loved Star Trek. He was always thinking, questioning, making connections, and sharing what was on his mind with the people around him. Matt had a way of including the people he loved in his life and making them feel that they belonged there. Though he faced significant health challenges, they never defined him.
He is survived by his loving mother, JoEllen Esworthy; his devoted sister Connie VanDerPool (Jeff); his sister Kate Gleave (Sean); and his brother Eric Esworthy. Matt will be deeply missed by his cherished nieces and nephews: Cody Esworthy, Morgan Adams (Logan), Ana Finnegan, Gavin Gleave (Jamie), Nicholas VanDerPool, Erica VanDerPool, Maura Finnegan, Danny VanDerPool, Grace Gleave, Zuri Esworthy, and Layne Esworthy. Each of them carries a piece of his legacy in their hearts. Matt was preceded in death by his father, Terry Esworthy.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Matthew’s visitation at Assumption BVM Church, 1900 Meadowbrook Road, Feasterville-Trevose, PA 19053 on Friday, September 4th from 10:30-11:30 AM followed by his Mass at 11:30 AM. Interment will be private.
Matt will be remembered most of all for being unmistakably himself, and for leaving those who loved him with countless conversations, stories, laughs, and probably a few very long messages to remember him by. www.tomlinsonfh.com
