Norma Jane (Sponsler) Boone passed away peacefully on Monday, August 17, 2020 at Chandler Hall Hospice Pavilion surrounded by her family. She was 81 years old. Born in Sugar Grove, PA, she was a resident of southeastern Pennsylvania for the majority of her adult life – and lived in Holland, PA for over 20 years. Throughout her life, Norma was very active in the United Methodist Church. She held leadership positions in youth and women’s organizations over the years. She was a Sunday School teacher, sang in various choirs and was most recently a member of Newtown UMC. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics from Penn State University in 1961 and used her degree as a nursey school teacher for many years. Penn State is a family affair, spanning three generations of graduates. Though normally quiet and gentle, Norma was passionate about Penn State and enjoyed the many Saturdays that were spent with family cheering on the Nittany Lions. For the last 23 years - Norma was most happy about being Meme to her grandchildren - Taylor, Jack, Christian, Charlie, and Archie. In addition to her grandchildren, Norma is survived by her devoted children Debbie (Dan) Boltner of Newtown, PA and Tim (Janis) Boone of Huntersville, NC. She will be missed by her sister Joyce Rigby as well as many nieces and nephews. Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore Roosevelt Sponsler and Mabel (Foltz) Sponsler. Given the current situation related to Covid – a Celebration of Life at Newtown United Methodist Church will be planned at a later time. In lieu of flowers – donations can be made in Norma’s name to THON – Penn State’s philanthropy supporting pediatric cancer research. Visit www.thon.org to donate. Donations can also be made to Newtown United Methodist Church at www.newtownumc.com/giving
