With heavy hearts, we announce the upcoming funeral services and ceremonies for Robert F. (Bob) Downey, a beloved husband, father, and member of the community. Robert passed away on November 13, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on December 8, 1943, in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Timothy and Marie Downey, Bob attended Northeast Catholic High School and served in the United States Army. Soon upon arriving home from his military service to Port Richmond he married the love of his life, Rosemarie Ricci. Bob and Rose settled in Bensalem, raising their 5 children in the legendary neighborhood known as Brookwood. There he made many, many friends and even became very close with his children’s friends.
Bob was a dedicated and accomplished basketball official – primarily calling games in the Philadelphia Catholic League – in which he was consistently assigned the final four & championship games at the Palestra every year. He was the proud recipient of the 1999 Philadelphia Old Timers’ Thomas F Hills Award for his dedication and effort and was inducted into their Philadelphia Basketball Hall of Fame. He was also a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Charles Borromeo Church. Upon retiring as an Operations Manager from Philly-based Medical Legal Reproductions, Bob enjoyed playing golf in Bensalem Country Club’s Tuesday golf league.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Rose Downey, his children Kim Craven (Stephen), Robert Downey (Lauren), Timothy Downey, Jeff Downey, and Matt Downey (Daneen), as well as his grandchildren, Amanda, Owen, Luke, Grace, Ella, Reese, and Delaney and his great granddaughter, Hazel. Robert was preceded in death by his brothers, Timothy, Jack, and John Downey.
The funeral services for Bob will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 1731 Hulmeville Road, Bensalem, Pa 19020 on November 21, 2024, with a Mass at 10:30 am and a public viewing starting at 9:00 am.
Robert's memory will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace, knowing that he was a cherished member of the community and a dedicated family man.
