Ronald Howard Traenkle, 77, was finally reunited with his beloved wife, Patricia Elizabeth (Dunn) Traenkle on September 3, 2023.
Born on April 26, 1946 in Lackawanna, NY, Ron graduated from Canisius High School and Erie County Technical Institute, earning a degree in Metallurgy. He married Patty, his high school sweetheart, in 1967 and moved to Bensalem, Pennsylvania where he worked briefly for Heppenstall Steel.
Ron joined Bensalem Police Department in 1972. Over the next 25 years, Ron rose through the ranks and established himself as a well-respected member of both the police department and the community. As Captain, Ron dedicated his service to the development of training and policy procedures that were adopted by both Bensalem Police Department as well as other departments nationally.
Ron was recognized as an expert in the field of law enforcement. He worked as a consultant and expert witness for various law firms and lectured at universities and agencies throughout the country, including Penn State, Northwestern University, and the Capitol Police. Ron also served several years as Commander of Temple University’s Police Academy and was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel by the Governor of Kentucky.
Despite Ron’s many contributions to the law enforcement community, he will be most remembered for his devotion to Patty, their three daughters and seven grandchildren. Ron was proud of his family and never missed an opportunity to tell anyone who would listen. Throughout their 56 years together, he and Patty had many shared hobbies, including scuba diving, traveling and boating. He was an avid reader, history enthusiast and lifelong learner.
Ron will be deeply missed by his daughters, Robin (John) McLaughlin, Christi (Jason) Bohot, Kelly (Dave) Wickersham and his grandchildren, Sarah, Valerie, Meghan, Rachel, Nathan, Ryan and Ronnie.
