Siegfried Honig

July 31, 1930 — December 10, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Col. Siegfried Honig, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left us on December 10, 2024, at the age of 94. Siegfried was born on July 31, 1930, in Munich, Germany to the late Leopold and Maria Honig, and later made Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, his home.

Siegfried's life was a tapestry woven with love, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to service. His journey into service began when he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952. After completing his basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, he excelled, ultimately attaining the rank of Colonel. His work in military intelligence at the European Headquarters Command in Frankfurt, Germany, although classified, demonstrated his keen intelligence and sense of duty.

Beyond his military accolades, including serving as Commander of the Veteran Guard by Regiment Infantry National Guard of Pennsylvania and honoring his service aboard the USS Saratoga, Siegfried was an active member of his community. He served on numerous boards, including the United States Selective Service System appointed by President Reagan and was involved in various committees within the American Legion. His leadership and dedication to veterans' causes reflected his deep love for his country and his fellow servicemen and women.

Siegfried is survived by his adoring wife, Cacilia (Gram) Honig; his daughters, Eileen Benoff-Santangelo (John) and Denise Benoff; daughter-in-law Rita Benoff; his cherished grandchildren, Michael Jerome Benoff, Samantha Godshall, and Zachary Benoff; and his precious great-grandchildren, Daniel and Michael Jude Benoff, Robert Godshall, and Scarlett Benoff, and Elena Godshall. His family was everything to him, and he dedicated his life to their love and happiness. Siegfried was preceded in death by his son, Michael Benoff.

Services and interment will be held privately.

Siegfried Honig’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His kindness, courage, and love for his family will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
