Vilma Guimes

January 2, 1930 — December 9, 2024

Vilma (Uivary) Guimes, peacefully passed away on Monday, December 9, 2024, at the age of 94. Born in 1930 to the late Andrew A. Uivary and Theresa (Milkovits) Uivary in Northampton, PA, was a proud 1st generation American, and the third youngest of 13 siblings, 10 of whom lived to adulthood.

Vilma had a fulfilling career at the IRS, dedicating over 28 years of her life to her work, ultimately retiring as a supervisor. She was not only known for her professional accomplishments, but also for her warm spirit and dedication to those she loved.

An avid traveler, Vilma cherished her yearly trips to visit close friends in Florida and especially treasured her annual week at their timeshare, Eagles Nest, in Marco Island with her late husband, Arthur, her children Sue and Drew and her granddaughter, Crosby. She had a true appreciation of the arts, often enjoying local theatrical performances, as well as traveling to NYC to take in Broadway productions and museum exhibitions. She had a passion for baking Christmas cookies. Each Christmas, she brought joy to family and friends by making hundreds of cookies, a tradition that will be fondly remembered by all who tasted her sweet creations.

Besides being a voracious reader, Vilma was a true lover of card games, especially bridge and pinochle. She even started a pinochle club within her assisted living community. However, her greatest pride and joy were found in her granddaughter, Crosby, with whom she shared countless precious moments. One of their favorite summer activities when Crosby was young was for Grandmom, Grandpop and Crosby to spend the day attending the childrens’ theatre performances at the New Hope Theatre.

Vilma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arthur Guimes. She will be deeply missed by her two loving children: Suzanne M. Cavanaugh and Andrew C Guimes. Vilma will also be deeply missed by her loving granddaughter, Crosby Cavanaugh, her sisters-in-law Charlotte Uivary, Jackie Uivary and Else Gowers, and many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her brothers Stephen Uivary, John Uivary and Andrew Uivary; sisters Theresa Luerschmidt, Julie Uivary, Anna Nemeth, Rose Meixner, Ella Loki, Stella Budihas; and Mary, Helen, and Nancy Uivary.

Family and friends are invited to attend her viewing Monday, December 16, 2024, from 10 to 11 AM at St. Ephrem Church, 5400 Hulmeville Rd., Bensalem, PA 19020, followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. and the Rite of Committal at Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem, PA.
