It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Violetta Lohyn, who passed peacefully at her home on January 26, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on January 20, 1938, in Minsk, Ukraine, to the late Nicolai and Pavla (nee Moitewna) Pawlutschenko.
Violetta migrated to the United States from Germany with her late husband, Andrej Lohyn, to Philadelphia, PA where she worked at the Keebler plant for 22 years until its closing and then went on working at Nabisco for 18 years. Violetta then worked part-time at Estee Lauder until she fully retired. She worked long and hard for many years to help support her family.
Although she never graduated from high school, she was a wiz with numbers and spoke 5 languages. She taught herself English by watching American television. Beyond her baking and cooking traditional Ukrainian foods, Violetta had a deep love for music and dancing, she also cherished reading. She was very crafty and creative and spent many of her last days crocheting afghans for people that needed warmth. Many of those afghans went to Autism Cares, hospice centers, and elder care facilities. Just to name a few.
She made friends wherever she went and was very generous and willing to help a friend in need. She loved to travel and even made several trips to the USSR before and after the iron curtain fell. She continued to support family in Ukraine throughout her life.
Violetta is survived by her loving daughters, Lydia Comerford (Tom), Lesia Lohyn, and Tina Lohyn, as well as her son, Michael Lohyn. Granddaughters Christina Comerford, Nicole Olivarez (Steve Moyer) and Melissa Fissinger (Rich); and Great grandchildren Caroline and Luke; and various relatives throughout Europe. Her legacy of love and warmth will forever live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Violetta was preceded in death by her step-mother Lydia Vaschivna, her late husband of 52 years Andrej Lohyn, as well as her sister and brother.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 2:00 – 3:00 PM at Tomlinson Funeral Home,2207 Bristol Pike, Bensalem, PA 19020 followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM. Interment will be private at a later date.
