W. Richard Piper

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of W. Richard Piper, fondly known to friends and family as Rick, who left us on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on December 23, 1947, in Trenton, NJ to the late Margaret Mary Schroth and William Richard Piper, Jr, and spent much of his life in Philadelphia, where he became a beloved figure in the community he served.

Rick was not only a dedicated entrepreneur but also a passionate advocate for health and fitness. He owned and operated the 12th Street Gym, a vibrant gathering place for fitness enthusiasts that reflected his love for working out and healthy living. His passion extended beyond the gym, as he cherished moments spent with friends enjoying dinners and shows in the heart of Philadelphia.

Rick found solace and joy in the scenic beauty of Rehoboth Beach, DE, where he created countless cherished memories. Known for his humor, kindness, and commitment to those around him, he leaves a lasting impact on all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Rick is survived by his brother, David Piper, who will undoubtedly carry on his legacy of resilience and love. He was also preceded in death by his Sister Lorette Piper.

Services and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rick’s memory can be made to either Morris Animal Refuge in Philadelphia or PAWS (Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society-Philadelphia). www.tomlinsonfh.com
