William R. Oostdyk, Sr. passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, at the age of 88. He was surrounded by his wife, all of his children and many other loved ones. He was born on June 5, 1937, to the late Francis Herbert and Kathryn Greta (Jellesma) Oostdyk. Bill embodied the spirit of kindness, community, and family that touched the lives of all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Carole nee Keyser, and his six children: Laurel Anderson (Ron), Wendy Lawrence, William R. Oostdyk, Jr., Joy Squires (Keith), Jodi Bell, (Jim), and Christy Lineman (Bob). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Krystal Kennedy (Beau), Michelle Young (Mike), Erik Anderson, Ryan Lawrence (Cheyenne), Josh Squires, Lindsay Dill (Jesse), Scott Squires, Juliana Bell, Savannah Squires (Chris), and Jamie Bell; 17 great, and 4 great-great grandchildren; his brother Curt Detwiler (Carol), and sister Kathie Pratt (Gil). He is preceded in death by his brother Frank Oostdyk (Anna), and sister Faith Buck.
As the head usher at Calvary Baptist Church for many years, Bill dedicated many years to serving his faith community with grace and unwavering support. He was a familiar face every Sunday. He was also an avid sports fan, and had a special place in his heart for the Philadelphia Phillies and the Dallas Cowboys. Whether watching a game with friends or discussing the latest plays, his enthusiasm was infectious. He also enjoyed playing softball on the church league for 15 plus years with his son. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Bill found immense pleasure in family vacations in Myrtle Beach SC, spending treasured moments with loved ones; a tradition for over 30 years. Bill was a lifelong truck driver. He drove for his uncle's company, E. Oostdyk, for 30 years. He then purchased his own rig and drove that for another 28 years. After that he drove for his son's company. He loved trucking and did not want to retire. He also owned and operated a fence company, Cross Country Fence, which was a business he took great pride in. He worked alongside his beloved son, earning the respect of his clients and the community alike.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at the Calvary Baptist Church, 250 Green Lane, Bristol, PA 19007, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Internment will be private.
