William Herbert Ovens, a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and cousin passed away on October 10, 2024 comforted by his loving wife. Bill, as he was known to family and friends, spent the day prior with loved ones who shared their favorite memories of Bill and enjoyed their time filled with love and laughter.
He was born on August 18, 1950, in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Herbert and Rosalie Ovens. Bill enlisted in the United States Navy in June 1968, while still in his senior year at Thomas Edison High School. He had a strong sense of duty to his country as a proud veteran of the United States Navy. Bill served from 1968 to 1972 and as Petty Officer 3rd class he was responsible for the catapults and arresting gear aboard the USS America and was deployed on a Mediterranean and Vietnam Naval Operation. Bill was a member of the Joseph A. Schumacher Foreign War Veterans Association Inc. and served as Commander of the VFW Post 1597 for 5 years.
He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, loyalty, and love for his family. Bill was a dedicated truck driver for various companies, most recently, Berrodin Parts Warehouse for several years. Bill held a special place in his heart for his family, survived by his cherished wife Joanne Ovens, his son Kyle Ovens (Yu-Chi Ting) and daughter Amber Ovens (Chaz Caldwell), grandchildren Edward Kostner Jr, Alexander Ovens, and Isabella Ovens, sister Rose Dawbin (the late Gerald), several cousins, and nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass to honor and celebrate Bill's life will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 601 Bristol Pike, Croydon, PA 19021 on October 17, 2024, at 11:00 am. Prior to the mass, a public visitation will take place at the church at 10:00 am.
William Herbert Ovens will be forever remembered for his kindness, love, and devotion to his family. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
